10 new uses for lemons, courtesy of Real Simple

1. Sanitize a chopping block. Run a slice of lemon over the surface to disinfect.

2. Eliminate the browning that occurs when food sits out too long. Sprinkle apple or pear slices with lemon juice before serving, or squeeze a bit into guacamole and give it a stir.

3. Remove tough food stains from plastic and light-colored wooden cutting boards. Slice a lemon in half, squeeze the juice onto the soiled surface, rub, and let sit for 20 minutes. Rinse with water.

4. Fade tea stains on cloth. Dilute lemon juice with an equal amount of water. Use an eyedropper or a Q-tip to make sure the juice targets the stain. Thoroughly flush with cool water.

5. Decorate on the cheap. Fill a glass bowl with lemons for a sunny centerpiece. Or display a row of them along a windowsill.

6. Relieve a sore throat. Cut a lemon in half. Skewer one half over a medium flame on a gas stove or an electric burner set on high and roast until the peel turns golden brown. Let cool slightly, then mix the juice with 1 teaspoon of honey. Swallow the mixture.

7. Whiten fingernails. Rub a wedge on the surface of your nails.

8. Shine the interior of copper cookware. Sprinkle a lemon wedge with salt, then scrub.

9. Brighten laundry whites. Add 1/2 cup lemon juice to the wash cycle of a normal-size load.

10. Remove soft cheese or other sticky foods from a grater. Rub both sides of the grater with the pulp side of a cut lemon

I love lemons....not just lemon flavor but lemons themselves! They're sunny and bright and smell great!

I remember "lemon sticks" for sale at our elementary school Spring Flings. We would cut the top off the lemon and insert a fat, short peppermint stick. Then we would suck on the peppermint stick. The juice from the lemon would work it's way through the candy stick (like a straw). Yum!

For only $27,080 a month, about $902.75 a day (that's less than the cost of a large screen projection TV) you can help an NFL player remain economically viable during his time of need. This contribution by no means solves the problem as it barely covers the annual minimum salary, but it's a start, and every little bit will help!

Although $900 may not seem like a lot of money to you, to a football player it could mean the difference between spending the lockout golfing in Florida or on a Mediterranean cruise. For you, nine hundred dollars is nothing more than a month's rent, a mortgage payment, or a month of medical insurance, but to a football player, $900 will partially replace his daily salary.

Your commitment of less than $900 a day will enable a player to buy that home entertainment center, trade in the year-old Lexus for a new Ferrari, or enjoy a weekend in Rio .

HOW WILL I KNOW I'M HELPING?

Each month, you will receive a complete financial report on the player you sponsor. Detailed information about his stocks, bonds, 401(k), real estate, and other investment holdings will be mailed to your home. Plus, upon signing up for this program, you will receive an unsigned photo of the player lounging during the lockout on a beach somewhere in the Caribbean (for a signed photo, please include an additional $150). Put the photo on your refrigerator to remind you of other peoples' suffering.

HOW WILL HE KNOW I'M HELPING?

Your NFL player will be told that he has a SPECIAL FRIEND who just wants to help in a time of need. Although the player won't know your name, he will be able to make collect calls to your home via a special operator in case additional funds are needed for unforeseen expenses.

PORK CHOPS

In a zoo in California , a mother tiger gave birth
to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs.
Unfortunately,
Due to complications in the pregnancy,
the cubs were born prematurely
and due to their tiny size,
they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery,
suddenly started to decline in health,
Although physically she was fine.
The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter
had caused the tigress to fall into a depression.

The doctors decided
that if the tigress could surrogate
another mother's cubs,
perhaps she would improve.

After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother..

The veterinarians decided to try something
that had never been tried in a zoo environment.
Sometimes a mother of one species
will take on the care of a different species.
The only orphans' that could be found quickly,
were a litter of weanling pigs.
The zoo keepers and vets
wrapped the piglets in tiger skin
and placed the babies around the mother tiger...

Would they become cubs or pork chops?

I wonder if you love Oprah's Favorite Things shows as much as I do. I'm not sure if I'd be one of those "jumping up and down" people but I would love the thrill of getting tons of free gifts!! Many of the gifts are so extravagant the average person (me!) would never splurge on such a thing.

I'd like to hear about some of your favorite things. It may be a simple item (like your coffee mug) or your big shiny SUV...whatever it is, please tell us about it.

Today, my favorite thing...is my heated mattress pad. Everyone at work is probably sick of hearing me talk about it but I truly LOVE this thing. This is the only thing I will HATE to put away once the warm weather arrives.

Every fall it's the same thing....I dread the upcoming cold weather. I usually waste my whole fall season away dreading what's to come...

Pretty sad, I know. So last year I promised myself I would just appreciate every nice day as it arrived and try not to think of tomorrow or next week.

That worked for me this past fall.

Now I need to work on winter. Instead of hating winter and complaining about it everyday (I think I do that!)...I have started making a list of all the positive reasons to like (or love) winter.

1. My heated throw that I use while watching tv at night.
2. Our new heated mattress pad....I am in LOVE with this luxury item.  It is SO much better than an electric blanket. I turn it on high about 1/2 hour before we go to bed, then jumping into bed is the most comfortable thing I do all day :)
3. Corduroys.....does anyone else love these body hugging, warm, stretchy, flattering pants? One drawback....everything sticks to my black ones!
4. Hot drinks are better in the winter.  Although I do drink hot tea and coffee year-round...nothing beats hot coffee on a winter's morning.

Ok....that's all I can come up with. Please help me come up with reasons to like or love winter.

And to all you lucky southerners....I'm just plain envious!!  Do you really know how lucky you are? I live in Pennsylvania...I know it's not the coldest state...but it's got to be one of them!

to our bedroom. Honestly a Queen would have been good enough.

Its Time To Move On

The time has come for me to say Good-bye after over a year of blogging at Lemon Tree. Shelley is going to be posting more about Lemon Tree Products, which is great! When the blog started it was to tell everyone about the great Lemon Tree items. Everything from Invitations to Wall Art. She also has printable items, which is great if you want to print off your own things. Keep checking back to see what kind of things are going on at Lemon Tree!

Shelley got me started on blogging and I found I really enjoyed it. Lemon Tree allowed me to dip my toe into the blogging world. From there I was able to write a column for my local hometown paper. All the great comments that you guys have posted were much appreciated.

I'm going to take Mr. Bernie with me and move to my own blog. I'm sure he will have more antics for me to write about. Writing my own blog is scary! Shelley had everything set up when I came here. I just had to start playing. Now I'm going to be doing it all on my own. I would love for you to stop by my new blog, One Mixed Bag, and say hi! It would be nice to see some familiar faces.

Oh, Christms Tree

We have never been big decorators for Christmas. I think that last year was the first year we actually put up a tree. This year we have a "new to us" tree that is pre-lit. It should be fun trying to find a place to put it up.

Last night we went to Kohl's to pick up some things from our wedding registry. I was very insistent that we pick up some Christmas ornaments of our very own. We do have some handy me down ones. Since its our first Christmas married, I thought we should have some ornaments that we picked out. Let the fun begin!

Mr. Bernie was all about the "Old World" blown glass look. He would look and point then say, "Oh, pretty!" That made me giggle. He was like a little girl who was told she could have a new doll. We decided on two each, he had a hard time deciding on which ones he wanted. Picking up this one and than one. Finally, he decided on a snowman and a stocking. He gently put them in the Kohl's cart. Telling me that he didn't want them to break. Awwwww
Next it was my turn . I know this will be a shock, but I have more of a quirky taste. The ornaments he picked were lovely, but not what I was looking for. Suddenly, I saw the one I wanted. She was proud looking in her glorious bovine beauty. A cow wearing a pink tutu! I loved her. Mr. Bernie just laughed and asked me if I was sure that was the one I wanted. One would think that the happy dance I was doing and the girly squeal would have assured him that I wanted it. He told me that he knew that was the one I would pick. It was time to pick my second ornament, and I picked a cup of hot cocoa with two cute marshmallows hugging. I pointed out that it looked like us, and he just rolled his eyes.

Now we have 4 ornaments of our very own. Mr. Bernie jokingly calls them our heirloom ornaments. Heirloom or not, they are the best ornaments in the world.

One More Sleep

One more sleep until the big day! Today is running around getting last minute stuff done. I know Mr. Bernie is going to be quite busy. He helped decorate the reception area all day yesterday. He has some things he wants to get done today. I'm going to go my nails filled and take Mom with me, so they can paint her nails.

Its hard to believe that after two years of planning, the wedding is almost here! People started arriving yesterday. More come in today.I'm wondering where the time went.

I Was A Blonde

Mr. Bernie drove from Montana to Minnesota yesterday. Its a long drive when we are both in the car, even longer when its just him. I urged him to stop and stay over in North Dakota, but he wanted to keep driving on. I think he just wanted to get the drive over with.

Since Mr. B. likes to tease me and play jokes on me, I wanted to play a joke on him. I have longer red hair. (Thanks to my hairdresser for that) Anyway, Mom has a short blond wig here at the house. I thought it would be fun to surprise him by wearing it when it arrived. Knowing he would be tired, I would catch him off guard.

When he pulled in last night I was waiting by the door for him. He could see me and kept rubbing his eyes. He looked very confused. He came up to the door, looked at me, and said he must have the wrong house. Then he went back to the car to get something else, came back to the door and muttered some more.

I gave him a hug and told him I was glad he made it safe. Asked him if he liked my new hair. He just kept rubbing his eyes. Then he asked me what happened to my hair. I told him that my cousin's cut it and dyed it for me. He loudly demanded to know which one did it. Does she have any training? Why would I let them do that to me? *lol* I told him that it seemed like a good idea at the time.

After letting him stew for a couple minutes I took the wig off. The relief on his face was priceless. He kept muttering he was glad that it was not so short and so on and so forth. It amused me to no end.

Now he is sleeping and I'm trying to figure out what our week will entail. I'm so glad that he made it safe and sound. Getting a joke over on him was just a bonus!

Who Knew?

I was chomping at the bit to get to Minnesota. Run around with my girlfriends. Visit with family. Listen to Minnesota accents and so on. Leaving Mr. Bernie was going to be sad, but not devastating. I think after all our stress with planning, designing and so on, it was time for a break.

It will be a week tomorrow and I'm ready for the break to be done. I knew I would miss him just didn't realize how much I would miss him. I miss hearing his laugh the most. He can tease me like nobody else can. Yet, he can really make me laugh like nobody else. Talking to him on the phone is not the same as watching his eyes light up with he laughs.

He should arrive sometime Sunday night or Monday. Poor dear has had to coordinate everything while I have been gone. Work, cleaning house, I was able to arrange pet care from here. He still need to have our cat checker come to the house to meet the critters. Ms. Scoobie will be boarded and then Mr. Bernie's brother will pick her up for us.

I know when he arrives he will be on full tilt aggressive mode. His inner Groomzilla will rear his ugly head. Yet, with only 8 days left, that is to be expected.

In 8 days this will all be over and I will officially be Mrs. Bernie. I can't wait.

The Royal Treatment

I made it back to Minnesota on Saturday. It was agreed that I would meet Jen and Michele at their hotel. When I arrived at the suite they had a table set, fit for royalty! The first thing I noticed were the cheeses, several different kinds of them. Humboldt Fog, Blue Cheese, Aged Cheddar Cheese, another kind of cheese I had never heard of. Pate', Artichoke dip, tomatoes and olives. There was more, meats, artisan breads, a fudge made with cheese, crackers, GODIVA chocolates! We also had wines. It was hard to know where to start! I felt so spoiled.

We stayed up late and laughed all night. We are getting better, we almost had Michele wet her pants with laughter. Laughing about silly things. Teasing each other. It was a night where even is something wasn't funny, it still was funny. Its not often that individually we all get to laugh that hard. Put us all in the same room and all bets are off.

Michele grew up in the Minneapolis area. Jen and I wanted to see where she grew up and her school and so on. Jen and I grew up together, so we know all about our school and so on. It was a special thing for us to get to see Michele's life before we all ended up together. It meant a lot to both Jen and me. We all have such a good time together and feel as if we have been friends forever. Yet, Michele did have a life before us and it was nice to be able to see it.

I had a lovely couple days off from the wedding grind. Now its time to hop to finalizing guest lists, seeing how long it will take the girls to get me into my corset, talk to DJ's and so on. I think I'm going to be beat by the end of the week. It was nice that the week started on such a note.

I'm Leaaving On A Jet Plane

One more sleep until I fly back to Minnesota. I will finally get to participate in my own wedding! That means seeing the decorations that my mom has done. Splatter paint on "toe tags" with Jen and Michele. Show off my shoes and dress. I could go on. All the things that other people get to do the entire time of wedding planning, I will get to cram into a couple weeks.

My week has been a busy one and will continue to be busy until I leave. I got my nails done, which is always a thrill. They will need to be done before the wedding, but they wouldn't last that long. My hair dresser came in on her day off with balloons and a card to dye my hair. Today I get my teeth cleaned. Tonight I will pack. No sense in rushing these things.

The girls are heading down to Minneapolis today and I will fly in tomorrow to meet them. They want to hit a great scrapbook store on the way. I don't mind missing that at all. Then when I fly in Saturday I will just take the shuttle to their hotel. It should be a fun girls night. I can't wait. Maybe we will get lucky and get Michele to wet herself from laughing. Always a goal with us.

Mr. Bernie will have to work the shop alone and arrange critter care. I will have a box packed of things I won't be flying with that are needed for the wedding. I plan on stopping by the local coffee shop and arranging a few coffees to be delivered to him. That will break up his week a bit.

If I have time this week I will be sure post an update.

What To Get Men For Weddings?

I'm looking for ideas as to what to get the men in our wedding. The girls and women we already have taken care of. Our ring booer is all figured out as well. Mr. Bernie has decided that the boy needs a pocket knife. He is quite excited about that one.

Our men are a bit harder. Nobody wears cuff links anymore. None of them are real drinkers, so they don't need flasks or mugs. Mr. Bernie is NO help. He just stares at me like I'm not even talking to him. He is as lost as I am.

Anyone have a good idea as to what would make a good "Thank You" gift for our guys? We both feel as if we are banging our heads against a wall.

The Final Countdown

This weekend will be a busy one for us. I will fly back to Minnesota next Saturday. I can't believe that its almost wedding time!

I won't bore you all with my laundry list of things I need to get done before I leave. Just know its a ton of things. When I wanted to fly home early for the wedding, I didn't take into account all the finalizing I will need to do in Montana before I leave! It making my head swim.

My posts will be hit or miss for the next few weeks. I hope to get a couple more posts in this coming week. Also a few before the wedding. I'm sure that something funny or annoying will happen during that time.

My Fairy Godmother

For the most part, I have been pretty easy going with my wedding attire. I found a dress on E-bay that was custom made. I found my "foundation garments" with little trouble. My friend, Teresa, is making my wedding jewelry.

I've been pretty fussy free, until it came to shoes. I'm purse girl, shoes so don't interest me. I wear fun crocs for the most part. I don't remember the last time I bought a pair of dress up shoes. When looking for shoes for the wedding I found a pair I loved! They look like the ruby red slippers from The Wizard of Oz. A little red peeking out from under my dress would be amazing.

Thus started a long search for those shoes in a size 8W. One would have thought I was looking for the Holy Grail. I could find tons of websites that had those shoes in normal sizes. As far as wide shoes, if I was in the market for a size 11-13W, I was set! It got so bad that I started calling websites to see if perhaps they had a pair in 8W that they didn't have listed on their website.

I needed a Fairy Godmother to help me find these shoes. I found one at FierceCostumes.com. Her name is Zen and she is amazing! When I called whining to her I was about at the end of my rope. I explained my dilemma to her and may have whined a bit. Zen talked me "off the ledge" , so to speak. She told me that they didn't have size 8W in their store, however, she would be willing to see if she could get a pair from the manufacture. I about dropped my teeth. Zen explained that she would try to order them and if the company that made them had any in stock, she would send her runner to grab them for me. I was on cloud 9!

It took a couple days until I got the call. Zen had a pair of those shoes at her desk and where should she send them?? I almost piddled myself I was so excited!! Honestly, I was starting to get desperate. I was thinking of painting my feet red and gluing sparkles on them. It's Not As Easy As You Would Think

When most people get married, the church gives them a copy of the ceremony. They also give copies of popular readings. "I'll pick this from column A and that from column B" and so on.

Yesterday, I think the Mr. and I were wondering why we didn't do that. We spent a good part of the day fine tuning ceremony for October. It always starts out with such promise, but usually ends up boiling over at some point in time. We both know what we want, (even though Mr. Bernie claims not to care), its just a matter of getting there.

We did have a wonderful book to help us out. The Wedding Ceremony Planner by Reverend Judith Johnson, PhD. It walked us through planning our wedding. The important parts needed and ideas for the words to go with said parts. We picked a few lines from this section, a few lines from that section and mixed them all together. There was quite a few papers laying around with bookmarks in the book.

Its not as easy as it sounds. We would look at one thing and like everything except line 4. We really liked line 1 in some other section. Once we picked all the parts it was time to put them all together. Uggg! Granted its our wedding, so the order of operations does matter that much. On the other hand it did.

So now the ceremony is ready to be sent to the gal who is going to marry us. This book is ready to be passed on to the next bride who marches to her own drummer. I hope she enjoys the torture as much as we did.

Having A Fit

Today, after work, I'm going to look for a bustier for under my wedding dress. Bustier makes it sounds sexy and fun. In reality, the term is "foundation garment" However, that word just congers up images of little old ladies and metal boned ugly support items. I'm hoping to find one that is pretty.

I have always been, well endowed in the chest area. My mom and her sister tell me that I get it from my dad's side of the family. As a girl I hated it. Jenny was a size b and could buy her bras in the bargain bins for $1.98. She had NO sympathy for my dilemma of not being able to find bras, my shirts not closing properly and so on. One time she put on one of my bras and used her whole sock drawer to stuff them. That kept her giggling for quite sometime.

When we were in Junior High or High school I had to get a strapless bra for a cousin's wedding. My mom sent me to Glass Block for a fitting. For some reason I brought Jenny with me. Boy was that dumb. She sat outside the room while a 100 year old woman tried to fit me for a bra. The lady measured my chest with her tape. Suddenly, she said, "Oh, my I think you are an E." Jenny heard that and burst out laughing and almost feel of her chair. I thought I would die! I was remeasured and it was found I was not an E. Jenny never let me live that down.

So today I will once again let someone measure me so I can find just the right bustier. Something that will allow me to show off my chest and not make me look like the Michelin Man. You can bet I won't tell Jenny what size it is.

It's Begining To Look Like Halloween

We are asking people to come to our wedding in costumes. Its so exciting to hear about how people are going to dress up. Jen, who can procrastinate with the best of them, ordered her costume! That was a pleasant surprise. Michele has had hers for a while now, no surprise there.

I'm sure that we won't know what most of our guests will wear until the big day. Its been fun to hear the costume ideas friends and family have decided on. Some are surprising! A few people have told us that we won't know who they are. Exciting!

Everyone seems to be embracing the idea of coming in costume. Usually when one goes to a wedding they find a new dress or shirt. Most everyone is going to have to pick up something new to wear. There are some folks who have not dressed up in years and looking forward to it. My Great Auntie, Great Uncle and Jen's folks are in their 80's and they are going to dress up. Who knows when they last wore a Halloween costume.

Mr. Bernie is just waiting on part of his costume to arrive. I do believe he will look quite handsome. He keeps threatening to have two costumes for the big day. I think that he is doing that just to get my blood pressure up. It gives him great glee to watch me sputter and explain why he needs to wear the same thing for pictures and the wedding.

Both of us are thrilled that everyone is willing to dress up for the wedding. Just one more thing to make our day special.

Good Thing I Couldn't Sleep Last Night

Last night I had a hard time falling asleep. I think with the wedding getting closer my mind is on overdrive.

It turned out to be a good thing, for Abby, that I couldn't sleep. I had gone outside one more time before bed. As usual Miss Abby felt she should be going out as well. She was told no and shooed away. When I came back in it was dark and I couldn't see well. No need to turn on the light, I knew where I was.

What I didn't realize is that Abby was STUCK between the door and the screen door. She didn't make a peep! I opened the door to go back outside and out popped Abby. She meowed at me when I opened the door, flicked her tail at me and sauntered back in the house. Poor girl.

In the future I guess I should turn on a light to make sure that our black cat is not locked in somewhere. Yikes! I felt really bad about it. One more thing to help keep me up at night.

A Morning With A Child In The House

Last night my friend Teresa's nine year old spent the night. We played Wii, she played with the cats and dog, we watched a movie and had pizza. Later, we read to quiet down for the night. It was an exciting night for all. We had promised her that we would take her to work with us one day and today is the day.

Usually in the morning, we don't talk much. However, Ms. K. likes to talk A LOT. She came out from her bedroom this morning talking up a storm. She adores Mr. Bernie, so she has been babbling at him most of the morning. He has the patience of Job. He is answering all her questions. There are a lot of them. He is bustling around getting her juice and making her toast. What a great guy.

We will have her until late this afternoon at work. I'm sure that she will have a ton of questions and want to be entertained for the day. This should be interesting. We are glad to have her and happy to fulfill our promise of taking her to our work for a day.

Its been quite a while since we have had a little one overnight at our house. I'm pretty sure that she will wear us both out and we will sleep good!

When A Lake Is Not A Lake

Growing up in Minnesota I miss the water. Montana has a few man made puddles that they call lakes. Its not lake after lake after lake. There are some rivers as well. At times it can make me feel closed in by not having water.

The first year I lived in Montana, Mr. Bernie's mom took me to the "Rubber Duck Regatta". It is a charity event held each year at Lake Josephine. I was so excited to finally see a lake! With a name like Lake Josephine, I was picturing a nice size lake. The excitement as was building as we drove there. I was practically bouncing with enthusiasm.

When we arrived I was looking very hard for the lake. There was a nice pond we parked near. Perhaps we had to walk into the woods to see the it. If one wanted to they could swim across it this pond. Later we walked around the whole "lake". Mr. B's mom informed me that the pond, was the lake. Really? To me it was a nice pond. It was so nice that she brought me to the "Lake", knowing how much I missed water.

Later while we were sitting next to the lake I pointed to a mountain behind us and asked what it was called. She replied, "That's not a mountain, that's a hill." Alrighty, then. So we were by a lake that was not a lake and a mountain that was not a mountain.

Its all a matter of perspective.

Help! I Need Ideas for Gift Baskets

When we get married next month, Mr. Bernie's family and our friends will be arriving in Minnesota. I'm looking for ideas as to what to put in the hotel/motel rooms of out of town guest. Getting several fruit baskets is out of our budget. However, I want them to have something waiting for them when they check into their room. Something to show them that we appreciate them making the long trip and sharing in our day.

I know that I will probably make up some Chex Mix and have that in the room. Makes for a great snack when you want to munch on something. I thought perhaps some bars that I know they enjoy. I have to figure out if the rooms have regular size coffee pots or small room ones. If they have the small ones, I might drag Jen and Michele out thrift store shopping. Then I can make sure they each have a large coffee pot. After that I'm at a loss.

I will need to make at least or five little, "Welcome to Minnesota" gifts. What kind of things would you like to find in your hotel room if you were staying several days?

Gwynnie's Big Day Out

I have shown off our pets via the blog quite a few times. Usually, its pictures of Abby, Luke, or Scoobie. Poor Gwynnie is our old girl. She likes to sleep a lot, but she is old. The others get their picture taken because they are young and silly. When she was younger and we lived in town, she was quite the attention seeker. Gwynnie would walk back and forth on the sidewalk in front of our house. She was looking for someone to pet her. As soon as she saw someone walking up the side walk she would waddle over to them and fall on her side for them to pet her. One time she followed a little girl and her dad up the sidewalk when they didn't pet her. She just followed them and meowed her pitiful cry. Mr. Bernie had to ask the man to stop so his little girl could pet Gwynnie. Once the girl petted her, Gwynnie was done and waddled away to find her next petting.

We decided to take Gwynnie to work with us today. Its the day before a long weekend, so we figured work would be slow. She is not as quick at sneaking out the door, so we know she will stay in our shop. She will get a bit more attention than normal. The other critters are quite demanding in their desires to be petted, played with and so on. She is usually off sleeping or finds someone else has already claimed the laps in the house. The biggest reason she is going, instead of the younger ones, she doesn't get up on counters. Abby and Luke can hop up on a counter quicker than anything. We don't want either of them to hop up and get covered with ink! Gwynnie will stay low to the ground. Who knows what adventures Gwynnie might find. As long as she gets an extra pet from someone other than us, she will be reliving her glory days. Her days of trolling our sidewalk to get some attention.

Do You Live With Someone Who Yells At The T.V.?

Until I met Mr. Bernie, I assumed that only angry old men yelled at the t.v. or radio. In Minnesota the men are pretty quiet. My Dad and my Uncle Ted will talk to you or talk about politics, but I have never seen them just start yelling at inanimate objects.

Imagine my surprise when Mr. Bernie and I started hanging out and he started yelling at the t.v. We were watching the news and something political, he disagreed with, was being discussed. Suddenly, he started yelling about his disagreement with what they were saying. I had to turn around and see if someone came in the room. Who on earth was he talking to? It freaked me out. Then suddenly, he was done. I thought that was a bit odd, perhaps a fluke. I didn't say anything about it.

Fast forward six years. Its not a fluke, it is a daily occurrence. For example, this morning there was a commercial about business insurance on the radio. He started rambling about how insurance is a racket, be very afraid, you need to buy insurance, blah, blah. It doesn't even phase me now. I usually just try to ignore it. Sometimes if he realizes I'm ignoring him, he just yells louder. "Who are you talking to? Your not talking to me are you?" He replies, "Oh, no I'm just venting at the radio." Good to know, I thought I had to pay attention.

It gets worse during election time. We have different ways of thinking about things. At times that can be amusing, other times it can just be frustrating. During the height of the election one year he started yelling at the t.v. When that didn't work he just started rambling the same political doom and gloom message. Finally, I could take it no more. I asked him to please stop talking out it. When that didn't work, I started yelling for him to stop! He looked at me hurt and said, "What kind of world is it when a man can't talk in his own house? I think I'll just go outside and talk to myself!" I called his bluff and agreed that it was a good idea as I was fed up. I'll be dipped if he didn't put the dog on the leash and go outside to continue on with his tirade. At the time I felt bad about it, now I think its funny.

When he came back in, I asked him if he really went outside to keep talking. He replied, "Yes, I did, I wasn't done getting my points across!" Apparently, the dog and the trees had a very entertaining lecture to listen to. Better them than me, yet again!

Mr. Bernie will keep yelling at the radio and t.v. and I will keep ignoring it. Every once in a while he will say something that catches my attention and I might reply. He lights up like a kid at Christmas, encouraged that I'm paying attention. I like to pretend once in a while, it gives him hope that I might join him in a political discussion. I'm sure that won't happen any time soon.

When A Napkin is Not Just a Napkin

We have a majority of our large things for the wedding taken care of. Now its on to the little touches for the wedding. I learned last night, to just do them and let Mr. Bernie find out about them later. Its not worth the debate and hassle of explaining why we can't just use Scott 99 cent napkins for the wedding. Why it would be nice to have our name and date on them. He suggested getting the cheap napkins and if people wanted our names on them, we could autograph them. That does not work for me. I don't want monogrammed linen napkins, but I do want ones that have the names and date on them.

After he went to bed last night I started looking online for napkins. Wow! Glad I saved this little project towards the end. How do people pick? So many options that it makes my head spin! Oriental Trading has some at a reasonable price, but I don't want a stock image. I looked on Etsy and they have some neat ideas. Ebay had a ton more choices. Very reasonable. Its a matter of how many napkins do we need? Some sites say 3 per person or 4 per person. I'm not going to tell Mr. Bernie that or his head will explode! He would suggest that everyone have 1 napkin the whole time and if they want more, oh well.

My weekend is going to be a busy one, yet I will be searching for napkins. Having a ton of tabs open and looking between them. Finally, I will need to send what I find to Jen and Michele to see what they think. Its a process, one I'm dreading!

Brown Eyed Girl

When I was at Walgreen's recently I picked up some new eye shadow. It claimed to help bring out the color in your eyes. It had everything from blue to brown. I have little brown eyes, I have always wanted blue eyes. Not only are they little but one eye wanders. So very sexy. *eye roll* Jenny has blue eyes the size of dinner plates. When we were growing up I was very jealous about that. As an adult I have toned down on that jealousy.

I used to think that Crystal Gayle song, "Don't it make my brown eyes blue" was written for me. If I cried enough, my brown eyes would turn blue. So, I tried and I tried and I tried some more. In case you want to try too, it doesn't work. Believe me. As a teen girl, if crying would make my eyes blue, it would have happened. Not so much. Stupid song.

Anyway, back to the make up. I was so excited about my eyes standing out, I bought two packages of eye shadow. I had great hopes of my eyes standing out, stopping traffic even. Ya, not so much. I followed the directions on the back of the package and nothing! My eyes did not suddenly look like dinner plates. They were the same. I rushed into the kitchen to flutter my eyes and Mr. Bernie to see what he thought. He wanted to know if I had something stuck in my eye. He loves me but often misses golden opportunities to show his romantic side.

After all my hopes of huge eyes were dashed, we headed off to work. My little brown eyes still tiny even after trying out my new make up. I didn't bother to flutter them for the rest of the day. I didn't want our customers to think I had acquired an eye tic.

How Could We Forget A Camera?

Its been quite hot in Montana lately. The weekend brought temperatures up to 100 degrees. I'm very thankful for! When I first moved to Montana I lived in a studio apartment with only a swamp cooler to cool the room off. I would put my sheets in the freezer so I could have five minutes of relief when I went to bed at night.

The Mr. decided to surprise me and take me and Ms. Scoobie to the river yesterday afternoon. He talked about a sandy beach and I could put my feet in some water that was not coming out of our hose. I miss sitting by Lake Superior, so sitting by a river was something I was excited to do. We all loaded into the car and Mr. Bernie put our destination in our Garmin, we were off! We pulled into a fishing access and went to park. Mr. B's face fell when he saw we are at the wrong spot. This was a place to just launch your boat not a beach per say. He decided that he must have put the wrong spot it and we would try it again.

On the second try, we found the spot he was thinking about. It is about 12 miles from our house. It has sand leading to the "beach" Its all rocks near the river, but I didn't care. It was water and it was running! There were some folks away down the beach from us, so we felt ok letting Ms. Scoobie off her leash for a short while.

Scoobie went towards the water. She would walk around in circles and lap up some water. The Mr. decided that we should see if she can swim. So he waded out thigh deep and Scoobie followed and swam! I know most dogs can swim, but its the first time we have ever had a chance to let Scoobie swim. It was quite fun for us all.

While they were in the middle of the river, I realized that we forgot our camera! How on earth did we do that? We have been quite good about taking our camera everywhere with us. Here was an exciting "first" and we didn't capture it with our camera. We were both kind of disappointed by this. All I kept hearing in my head was Michele saying, "How could you forget your camera?" It took us a while but we got over it.

Now we have a neat place to take Scoobie and let her play in the water and swim. It will give her a work out and I will get to see water. Its a win win for all.

I'm so glad this is a fad that came and went. I really don't think that a "one piece" outfit looks good on many people. On a guy, its just weird.
